A Nude Portrait of French President's Wife will be Auctioned

Labels: ,

French President Nicolas Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni's nude portrait will be auctioned at Christies in New York next month. The photograph was taken in 1993 when Bruni's a top fashion model, posed for photographer Michel Comte. The Piece is being sold by art collector Gert Elfering. According to Christie's the piece is expected to bring in 3,000 to 4,000 when it is sold on April 10. [Source]

An aide to 40-year-old Mrs Sarkozy said: "Carla is very angry, not to say deeply upset, that a commercial organization has chosen to release this print at such an important time." Her priority is to establish herself on the world stage as a first lady that France can be proud of." This will certainly hurt her reputation; this being the first time that an image of a naked wife of a serving head of state has been sold for profit. [Source...NSFW]

Not sure how this will end up but with having the publicity of this auction could help Sarkozy and his wife out. Just depends on how the public views this, personally I don't think that we should always be in other peoples business. What makes this different is the fact that she is famous. You don't see this happening to someone who isn't. So what makes the difference? Just because someone is famous doesn't mean we need to know everything about them. They are human just like the rest of us, as for this story making headline...who cares if she posed for a nude portrait that is considered art. She was in a different time of her life, where she made a living being a model. Sometimes I believe that the world needs to realign it's priorities, but that is just my rant!
