Lessions Learned - Don't Try to Sell a Baby on Craigslist!

Labels: , ,

Well this one is pretty funny. A couple from Vancouver were arrested Tuesday for apparently trying to sell a seven day old baby girl on craigslist for C$10,000. The police, who were alerted by a woman who found the ad, used the number that was listed in the advertisement to track down the 23 year old mother and 26 year old father. The Couple told police that it was just a hoax, but where arrested for public mischief. Since the parents arrest the child has been put into the care of social workers. [Source]

Wow...what can I say...I guess if you can't afford the child then you shouldn't be doing the naughty thing. But if this truly was a hoax...I feel bad for them, I guess next time they will learn not to put something like this on the internet. So lesson for today...don't try to sell you baby on craigslist.

I would hate to see what the State Attorney will do to them. How could you not feel bad...no morals apparently.

Kindergartener Voted Out By Students

Labels:

A Port St. Lucie, Fla., mother is outraged and considering legal action after her son's kindergarten teacher led his classmates to vote him out of class. Melissa Barton says Morningside Elementary teacher Wendy Portillo had her son's classmates say what they didn't like about 5-year-old Alex. She says the teacher then had the students vote, and voted Alex, who is being evaluated for Asperger's syndrome -- an autism spectrum disorder -- out of the class by a 14-2 margin. Barton and her son, Alex, talked exclusively with Harry Smith live from West Palm Beach, Fla. Barton filed a complaint with Morningside's school resource officer. St. Lucie School spokeswoman Janice Karst said the district is investigating the incident, but could not make any further comment. The state attorney's office concluded the matter did not meet the criteria for emotional child abuse, so no criminal charges will be filed. Teacher Wendy Portillo was advised by the school board not to speak to the press so she declined our interview offer.[source]

This is just sad. This teacher needs to be made an example of. You don't do that to a child let alone a child who may have autism. I find it appalling that no charges were brought against the teacher. The State Attorney didn't find any emotional abuse...my butt.

Witchblade

Labels:

Well it seems like we are in the season of comic book movies. With all the movies that have come out and all the movies that will be out it is clear that comics made to movies is the one thing people are looking for. Now with that said there has been some great movies, one of which was Iron Man. Now it looks like they have another comic book coming to the big screen in 2009. Witchblade, which was created by Top Cow editors Marc Silvestri and David Wohl, writers Brian Haberlin and Christina Z, and artist Michael Turner. They made a T.V. show out of it and it ran for 2 season. Now I never watched the t.v. series, but I have a seen a few of the comics, and if they do this right this could be another great movie. For those of you who don't know what the witchblade is, check it out here. Below is the movie poster that was just released, and from the poster it looks like it could be a good movie, but then again, there have been some awesome movies posters and really crappy movies...so we will see.

My Weekend in Pictures

Working on the Homestead

Labels:

And again the sun sets on another one of my days off. reflecting back on the past couple of days I find that I never have enough time to one, get some rest, two get things done around the house, and three, time for my photography. I spent Friday evening nursing an upset stomach that I had. I did however get a chance to play catch with my old man. I haven't done that since I believe I was 15 years old. Saturday was spent working around the house trying to get some things done. One of which was to paint my front door and shutters. After picking up the paint and painting the door and shutters I found that the paint instead of being a cranberry was more like a deep purple...it reminds me of grimice from MCd's. So now that I have a purple monster of a door and shutters I have decided that I must now repaint them in the previous color thus wasting anytime I spent on the house this weekend. Now having the adventure on Saturday, I had to help my dad with installing new railing on his deck on Sunday. luckily everything went without a hitch and I headed home at a fairly decent time. Now I forgot to mention that my wife worked all weekend and we were really two ships passing in the night. She did get put on call for Sunday though and I ended up dragging her around to take pictures Sunday evening. Now the sad thing was I ended up only getting one day of rest which was today...only to jump right back into the grind tomorrow with work and babysitting. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I will just look forward to next weekend and look forward to not having a purple door. I hope that everybody had a relaxing long weekend.

It's a Girl....Her Name is Mikaela!

Labels:

Well the ultrasound went excellent and the baby looks great. As you probably guessed by the title, it's a girl, and one active girl at that. The ultrasound tech was having problems getting the pictures because she was moving around so much. So everything looks great, the doctor told us the baby is about one pound right now, and the heart and everything looks great. I just have to say it was amazing. So here in about four and a half months baby Mikaela will be here. Should be an exciting time.

FFF Isn't Enough for Sheyla

Labels:

I don't know what to say about this...either its insanity or just plain stupid. Sheyla Hershey[Sheyla Almeida] a Brazilian actress who has already had 8 surgeries to increase her breast wants to have another to further increase her bust size. Now I am all for do what you will with your body, it's yours and as long as you are not hurting someone else you can do as you please, but when should enough be enough? Apparently Sheyla has had this dream since she was young idolizing Dolly Parton. She has even removed ribs so that she can get the figure that she wants. She has been quoted saying "I want to look better each day, every day, everybody’s got a dream inside, you know? And, it’s good when you can make your dream come true." Is her dream something that should become a reality? To me this situation is really a gray area. I believe that we have the right to do what we wish to our bodies, but I also believe that a sane person would know where the limits are, and I think that Sheyla has reached and passed that limit. Now, personally I'm not sure who would preform the surgery on this woman, to me it would almost be like career suicide. Especially if something went wrong! But I will say this, for all the surgeries that she has had, she doesn't look deformed. It will be interesting to see if she ends up getting the surgery...A person who is determined will find a way to do it. It really just makes me wonder how long her back will keep up with the weight. What are your thoughts? Do you think she should be allowed to have another surgery or do you think someone should step in and stop her?

Time is Ticking Away

Labels: ,

Well it seems like time just flies by anymore. I just seems like yesterday that I found out that my wife was pregnant yet its been twenty weeks. Now the time has gone by so fast, but for some reason the past two weeks have been extremely slow, almost to the point of being painful. Now I believe the reason for this is because we are going to be finding out the sex of the baby at the next ultrasound. Now i have been patiently waiting to find this out and the realization that I am soon to be a dad is slowly creeping in. Now with the ultrasound being tomorrow I am getting really excited with the anticipation of what is to come. My wife thinks the baby is a girl[it is my thought that she just wants a girl], and most other people thinks that its a boy. Brandon has even said that it's going to be a boy and he is 8 for 8 of guess the sex. So we will see if it is a boy or girl. Personally it doesn't matter to me, as long as it is health and has all 10 fingers and toes.

Flobots

Labels:

The guys over at Dave and Thomas had this group on their blog and I have to say this group is pretty good. The Flobots are an indie-hip hop group from Denver, Colorado, who just got signed with universal music group. Their first single release is Handlebars. The song is really catchy. Sadly I can't embed it here, but just head over to youtube to check it out. The link is here. Let me know what you think.

Walk Hard

Labels:

Well I finally had a chance to see "Walk Hard: The Dewy Cox Story." I have to say that I wasn't going into the movie expecting much, but I found that it was a great movie. Many of the songs were really good along with being pretty funny. I've always been a fan of John C. Reilly, I can remember seeing him in Chicago with Renee Zellweger, and in Taladega with Will Farrell. The interesting thing is that John can actually sing and is a pretty good singer. For those of you who haven't seen or heard anything about this movie, it a parody of all the music biography movies that have been out lately [i.e. Walk the Line and Ray]. Another plus was Jenna Fischer from the Office was in the movie. Now there were a few slow parts in the movie, but it did keep pace and the music really did pull you through it. The only complaint that I did have was it seemed like the movie was made for Will Farrell, a lot of the one liners that they came up with sometimes didn't fit with John Reilly acting, but all in all it was a good movie and I do suggest this. If not for the comedy the music will make you laugh.

Scarlett Johansson...singing....

Labels: ,

Holy Hell, you know, I really like Scarlett as an actress and have enjoyed most of her movies, but why in the world would she decided to bring into music. You know I think there is a mentality if you are an actor, you can sing. Well its not the case, and case and point, take a look at the video below of Scarlett singing. I do believe that I sing better in the shower then she does in a recording studio.

Now that I have put you through that, I do apologize for hurting your ears...

Christina Aguilera...is Beautiful

Labels: ,

I know that I have posted a while back about Christina, but I found these new ads for Stephen Webster Jewelry. Vincent Peters did the photography. I love how the ads have a classy and retro feel to them. All I can say is Christina beautiful, and Vincent did an excellent job with these photos.

Sleep Deprivation...

Labels:

Now I know we all have had this issue when we just can't sleep. Lately I have been having issues with it myself. I find myself wide awake during the late hours of the night...[for some reason I tend to work on my different projects from 10:00 onward...] I know that when I try to go to sleep my head is spinning with a million things that either I need to get done or ideas that I get. 37 signals had a post about sleep deprivation, and I found it to be interesting. Here is a little from them...

* Stubbornness: When I’m really tired, it always seems easier to plow down whatever bad path I happen to be on instead of reconsidering the route. The finish line is a constant mirage and I’ll be walking in the desert for much longer than was ever a good idea.
* Lack of creativity: What separates programmers who are 10x more effective than the norm is not that they write 10x as many lines of code. It’s that they use their creativity to solve the problem with 1/10th of the effort. The creativity to come up with those 1/10th solutions drops drastically when I’m tired.
* Diminished morale: When my brain isn’t firing on all cylinders, it loves to feed on less demanding tasks. Like reading my RSS feeds for the 5th time today or reading yet another article about stuff that doesn’t matter. My motivation to attack the problems of real importance is not nearly up to par.
* Irritability: If you encounter someone who’s acting like an ass, there’s a good chance they’re suffering from sleep deprivation. Your ability to remain patient and tolerant is severely impacted when you’re tired. I know I’m at my worst when sleep deprived.

I know when I am lacking in my sleep, I find it much harder to function, especially the lack of creativity, and if you asked my wife she would say that if I don't get enough sleep that I am a bear to deal with. I know that we all go through this, but what are some remades that you use to help you with this? I sometimes try to read a book or put some soothing music on...so I guess the moral to this whole thing for me is, to try to get to bed at a decent time...

Long Week...

Labels:

Well I know that I told everybody that I was going to be posting more but I have been extremely busy the past couple of days. Now as there hasn't been anything to interesting online or in my life I have neglected to post anything. The only interesting thing that happened to me was yesterday when I went to McDonalds. Now I don't know if you saw the advertisements for MCD's but they were giving out free Chicken sandwiches if you bought a drink. I was really excited about this, so I went in and told them that I wanted my free chicken sandwich, but they said that the owner of that store wad decided not to participate in the free chicken sandwich...So it made me kind of angry, all I wanted was my free chicken sandwich, got my hopes up and then I was denied. Other then that I have just been working on my photography and in photoshop. I will have some pictures posted here soon. I'm just glad that my week is finally coming to an end. I will be out this weekend at my sister graduation, so it looks like the weekend will be a busy one. Also I am officially on count down to finding out what my wife and I are having. Next Thursday, a little less then a week, we will know what the sex of the baby is, so this is a very exciting time.

Touching up Photos

Labels:

Before:

Well thanks to Dan, my ability with photoshop is getting better. I especially like the fact that my camera shoots in a raw mode so I have a little bit more fudging room then with the photos. So this is my first attempt with using masking to bring out the different layers out so that the photo looks more finished. Now I know that there are people who believe that the digital age takes away from the film and the way the picture is suppose to look, but I like the fact that I am able to bring out the highlights and shadows all in one photo. Let me know what you think.

Weekend....end...

Labels: ,

Well it's been another weekend and I find myself wanting just another day off. As usual both Steph and I set out to get some stuff done this weekend, yet we ended up just playing catch up on our sleep. We did get most of our storage unit cleaned out in hopes to reduce some of our bills that we no longer need because of the house. Now the main reason we had a storage unit was we were trying to shoe horn out lives together in a 800sq/ft apartment when we first got married. Once we moved into our house we kept telling ourselves that we needed to get the stuff from the unit so that we could reduce our bills, yet the unit being about 20 minutes away we never made it priority. So this weekend it was my personal goal to get this done. Now hindsight is 20/20, and I ended up working on it in the rain, but I was able to almost get everything out of the unit. Other then that I was able to work on some photography. I have been taking my camera with me almost wherever I go. Friday I was able to get some pictures in at my parents house. I was particularly trying to get some of the birds at their house, but them seemed to be just a too fast for me. Sunday I spent sometime at the in-laws and I was able to get a few pictures there of Joy their sheep. I also took a picture of my mother-in-law katana, but I really wasn't able to compose a nice photo from it. I will have to keep thinking about how to get a great picture of this sword. This is the bird that I was trying to get a picture of, but it just didn't want to hold still. All in all the picture I thought was pretty good. I like the look of the fence, and how it rolls with the land.
This is Joy, she is very friendly, and love honey buns. When I first started dating Stephanie, this sheep scared the sheet out of me (a story for later).
Now I was able to rework the photo-shopped photos that I was working on. I think these look so much better and have more character then the others. So thank you to Dan for you guidance with this. I call the above photo hidden love, and I have the page from 1 Corinthians 13. The below picture is of a German Hymnal from 1876.
But all in all it was a busy weekend and I am not ready to go back to work, but its just one of those things. Sorry that I haven't been updating as much, haven't found to much out there that has been interesting, but I promise that I will start trying to post more. I hope that you all had a great weekend.

Working with Photoshop

Labels:

Now I'm not really good with photoshop, but I have been working with it trying to learn new things. I had a friend that did a photo where he made it look like you were looking trough the top of a lawn mower into the engine compartment. It was really awesome. This was my attempt to do the same thing. I was trying to make it look like you were looking into the Bible seeing the verse 1 Corinthians 13, and the other was looking into a hymnal. This is just my first attempt, not sure if I like them or not. What do you think?

Trash...

Labels: ,

So today I was out and about taking pictures of Francis Park and just trying to enjoy the beautiful day. Now while I was taking pictures I came across something that always bugs me, litter. I just makes me wonder if people really think that they can use the world as their trash can! I just really bugs me when I see stuff like this, especially since there are animals around. You wouldn't go to someone house and just throw your garbage around their house so why would you do it else where. So be respectful of the land...and pitch in by pitching you litter.

Urban Exploration - Lansing Car Assembly

Labels: ,

Lansing Car Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Lansing, Michigan. It contained two elements, a 1901 automobile plant and the 1920 Durant Motors factory. The Lansing plant was the longest-operating automobile factory in the United States when it closed on May 6, 2005. A new plant at nearby Delta Township, Michigan will start production in 2006. Lansing Assembly began in 1901 when Ransom E. Olds moved his Olds Motor Works [pictured above] to the city. He set up his plant on the site of the fairgrounds next to the Grand River. The Durant plant on Verlinden Avenue opened in 1920. After the demise of Durant, it remained closed until GM purchased it in 1935. It restarted production for GM's Fisher Body division, later becoming the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac factory. Lansing Car produced the Chevrolet Malibu/Chevrolet Classic. It also built the Pontiac Grand Am, which was the final vehicle built there. All Lansing Car products used the VIN code, "M"[Source]
Wow, this is a sad sight to see, I remember drive by this plant every morning on my way to school and work. I also had a family member who worked there. It was a great piece of Lansing history and its sad to see it gone, but it does mean progress to that is a good thing. You can check out the rest of the pictures here.
Amazing to see the inside of this place, to bad it fate was to be demolished.

New Camera

Labels: ,

Well, it was only a matter of time before I would finally get my camera. My wife went out and got me my Nikon D40 from BestBuy yesterday and I haven't stopped taking pictures yet. I love this camera, this is a great entry level camera for any person. It gives you the ability to point and shoot or you can take over with the manual controls and control it yourself. At first I was a little hesitant with the manual controls, but I have gotten use to them quickly. Nikon really makes it easy for you to take pictures. The only draw back to the DSLR cameras are the fact that you need to buy lenses for the camera, and with most lenses price being around 300 dollars, it can be a steep hobby. But I am hoping to make this more than just a hobby. So here are a few that I have taken with the new camera, and hopefully more will coming soon. If you have any ideas for me please let me know, I'm always trying to think of new techniques and ideas.

Teacher Booted for Bikini...?

Labels:

A high school science teacher in Florida has been booted from class, a decision she claims administrators made not based on poor job performance but on her moonlighting gig as a bikini mate aboard a local charter fishing boat.Tiffany Shepherd, 30, a college-educated single mother of three children, ages 2, 6, and 9, had worked for four years in Florida's St. Lucie County School District, just north of Palm Beach, before an ugly divorce early this year caused enough financial strain that she had to seek a second job. Earlier this month, the buxom blond took a job working for Gil Coombes and his wife, Kat, as a part of their charter fishing boat operation, Smokin' Em Charters. She was one of a handful of attractive women hired to roll out a new business concept combining fishing with bikini-clad, and sometimes topless, female mates. Shepherd said that she has not and will not do a topless charter. Her first fishing trip, Shepherd said, was Saturday, April 19. Four days later, she called into her school, Port St. Lucie High, to arrange for a substitute in order to attend a doctor's appointment. In the process, she learned that she was not welcome back for the rest of the year, nor would she have her annual contract for the 2008-09 school year renewed. "They're under the impression I'm doing a topless charter, that I'm a stripper," Shepherd said. "I wasn't doing anything wrong. I wasn't in a thong, I was in a regular bathing suit." Janice Karst, a school district spokesman, told ABC News that the decision to release Shepherd was based on more than 30 days of unexcused absences from school, a truancy that had already earned her two written reprimands this year. [Source]

So what do you think? Do you believe that it was due to the absences or do you think that her being a bikini mate was the reason they booted her? I can see from the employer stand point that if she missed the days that they say she did and that they were unexcused I can see why they fired her. So this may be a way for her just to ruffle some feathers and get some attention. Yet if they did fire her because she was a bikini mate I believe that there needs to be some type of repercussion on the school. I know with the way the economy is now there are more workers than jobs, but that shouldn't give the employers a reason to mistreat employees. Now I understand that she is a teacher and with that comes some responsibility, but I believe that she should be able to conduct herself how she pleases outside of the school/work. It would be one thing if she was coming into school in her bikini, but this is a second job so that she can provide for her children. So it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Iron Man

Labels:

Well the weekend finally has come. The release of Iron Man! I have to say that this movie was awesome, the 2 hour movie seemed to just fly by. The cast was great, Robert Downy Jr. play an excellent Tony Stark, and Jeff Bridges did an awesome job as Obediah. They kept the story moving quickly with Stark making the 3 suits. I will say this I would love to have the computer that Stark does, seeing him move ideas around the screen was awesome. But I will say this, it was great to see Stark go from irresponsible playboy into this superhero was great. On a another note John Favreau did an excellent job directing this movie, to me it just didn't seem like a comic book movie, I am looking forward to seeing more movies directed by John. So I do suggest seeing this movie. If you do go you need to stay through the end of the credits, you will get a chance to see Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury. The only complaint that I had was the final fight was a bit short, I thought that they could have drawn it out just a bit more, but I would suggest this movie to anybody. I would venture to say that this movie is probably going to be one of the best of this summer.

Hate Money...

Labels:

Sadly I'm flabbergasted with this one. Today one of my friends went shopping and upon receiving her change she got the above dollar. This dollar was in my opinion a fanatic Christian's way of trying to save someone. I found myself repulsed by this. The exact word is"But the fearful, the unbelieving, the abominable, (Homosexuality, any persons having oral or anal sex, entertaining evil thoughts, and detestable and disgusting habits) and murderers, and whore mongers,(prostitution) and sorcerers, (witch craft) idolaters and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone" My questions it why would someone put this on the back of the dollar? Really how does this show the love of God. I had a Teen Bible when I was growing up and one of the topics in the Bible for study was witnessing, now the thing from this "Bible Study" that stuck with me was you don't run up to someone and tell them that they are going to hell. This is just not how you convey God's love. Now what makes me angry is who is this person to think that they can claim God wrath, when in turn they need to look at themselves before they look at other people. I recall Jesus stating "

3Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."
In my humble opinion I in my own humanity try not to cast judgment on people because of this fact. I know that I am not perfect and deserve God's punishment, yet through him I am redeemed by his grace and love. This person/persons are making rational Christians look bad. As a Christian I believe that we are here to show the love of God, and not cast judgment on others. So to this so called Christian, please learn what it is to be Christ-like and remember to love your neighbor as yourself. Remember the fact that you are a mirror of God, and what people see you do and your actions will reflect how they see God. Also remember the ultimate price Christ paid for us to gain grace in God's eyes. If you need a reminder of what that is, you might want to listen to "O' Sacred Head Now Wounded."
What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners’ gain; Mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain. Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ’Tis I deserve Thy place; Look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace.
Sorry for the long rant, but this really erked me. I just can't stand meaningless hatred and ignorance. This is like declaring war in the name of God. But this is just my opinion.
